our story
In 2013, WAYFINDER began as a high school engineering class project in Hartford, Connecticut.
As a volunteer firefighter and high school student, EIS founder Jared Therrien realized a need for wayfinding and navigational aids for first responders following the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting that occurred near his home in Connecticut. With a goal to decrease emergency response times in schools, he began developing the design standards and custom signage materials that have evolved into the WAYFINDER school safety products .
We designed WAYFINDER to be highly visible while offering consistency from building to building - keeping numbering actionable and memorable while reducing cognitive load. WAYFINDER Reflective Classroom Window Numbers are the only decals that meet and exceed safety window labeling requirements in all 50 states.
Our numbering guidelines are based on a combination of recommendations from government safety organizations, after action reports, and our own team members' experience as first responders, students, and K-12 teachers.
Building numbering is our niche and expertise! We've specialized in school window and door numbering for over a decade, and expanded the WAYFINDER Safety Numbering System to include:
